LETTERS: "Take me off your mailing list. All you are trying to do is destroy the church of Christ. Well you won't do it thru me. People like you should be hung up by their toes. If you want to belong to a cult, why don't you join one and leave everybody else alone. One day you will be held accountable for your actions. I wonder what your excuse will be." - Ponca City, OK ... "Bunch of Trash! NO! Don't send The Examiner. We get enough junk mail without this." - Texas ... "Please remove my name from your mailing list. I am a member of the Lord's Church and I don't appreciate your twisting the scriptures and running it down. It is obvious you are a servant of Satan and not God." ... Lubbock, TX .... A few letters come like these. 95% are like this one: "1 was given THE EXAMINER for the first time, the May issue by ...... It is a much needed work. Congratulations! Please send any available back issues. Thanks!" - Kansas ... "No Do Not send The Examiner to this address. Jesus had a positive attitude. So should you!! He was not judgmental!" -Billings, MT. (This brother, typical of many other church members today, has apparently no knowledge of Jesus in His earthly ministry. He would turn our Lord into a first-class wimp, who went about spouting out little sweet talk to please everybody! And this is what much of the "preaching" (?) is today. It could be preached about anywhere with full acceptance by all. The clergy dare not say anything that would upset or offend anyone.

(The brother has never considered the Lord in His two attacks in the temple, upon those who had turned His Father's house into a den of thieves! He has never read, or else ignored, the accounts of Jesus dealing with the scribes and Pharisees - the clergy of His day - in Matthew 15 and 23. Certainly Jesus had a "positive attitude" about many things; but He also was very negative and against the teaching and hypocrisy of the religious leaders of His day and He publicly condemned them. Why else would they have put Him to death? Jesus had a positive attitude to be sure, but He also had a strong negative attitude toward all error and hypocrisy, and this is the "side" of Jesus that this brother doesn't even recognize!

(Can you imagine Jesus not being judgmental? If a Christian is not judgmental in determining truth from error, right from wrong, he will end up in hell! I pray that all the saints in Billings, MT are not like this brother. - cah)

STUPID THEOLOGY: That's what John Lofton, writing in Chalcedon Report, 4/9), called Pat Robertson's statements on the 700 Club TV program on Nov. 5, 1990. Robertson argued the necessity of the U.S. going to war to protect Israel. He said, "But if the devil could destroy Israel, destroy the Jews, then he would have a free slate to destroy the Christians and wipe out the knowledge of God off the face of the earth. As long as the Jews are around, Satan will not win." As Lofton observes, "The gospel, according to Pat Robertson, is that Israel - the Jews - are God. According to Robertson, the only thing that stands between the destruction of Christians and the wiping out of the knowledge of God from the face of the earth by the devil is not God Almighty - not Jesus Christ, to whom all power is given on earth and in heaven, but unbelieving Jews and Israel." FAMILY AND NATIONS: British anthropologist John D. Unwin conducted an in-depth study of eighty civilizations that have come and gone over a period of some four thousand years. He discovered that a common thread ran though all of them. In each instance, they started out with a conservative mind-set with strong moral values and a heavy emphasis on family. Over a period of time, the conservative mind-set became more and more liberal, moral values declined, and the family suffered. In each instance, as the family deteriorated, the civilization itself started to come apart; and in all eighty cases, the fall of the nation was related to the fall of the family. In most cases, that civilization fell within one generation of the fall of the family unit.- Zig Zeiglar
