On Preaching in Love. "Much is said about preaching the truth in the spirit of' love. Indeed, that is the only way the truth should be preached. A preacher should so love the truth of God's Word that he will not sacrifice any of it, nor pervert it. And he should so love the people that he will not withhold from them any portion of truth as revealed through the holy Scriptures, however unpleasant it may be. He who does either of these things neither loves the truth nor the people. The Apostle Paul charged Timothy, 'Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine' (II Tim. 4:2). Paul seemed to feel a deep sense of satisfaction because he had not 'shunned' to declare 'the whole counsel of God,' and 'kept back nothing that was profitable' to the brethren (Acts 20:20, 27)." - The Banner of Truth, January 1986.
