What's wrong with our teens? Just what you ought to expect - parents. But don't blame the kids for problems they didn't create.
1. TELEVISION - I am not anti-TV, but I am anti-TV saturation. Do you realize the average teen spends 15,000 hours in front of the tube, and only 12,000 hours in the classroom?
2. AUTOMOBILE - Visit any high school parking lot in the country. It is amazing how many teens either own a car or have easy access to one. Very few American kids are without wheels when they really want them.
3. MONEY - Some kids work, some don't. Some kids have well-to-do parents. Some don't. Yet they all have one thing in common...they all have money. Easy money in the pocket of an immature teen always spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e.
4. FREEDOM - Add the influence of television to the availability of autos and money...then provide it for a kid with too much time on his hands already. Presto! Another teen in trouble.
Parents, pay attention. There is nothing wrong with a kid having a TV, a car, money or free time. What is wrong is parents who do not properly supervise their kids' use of these things. Don't blame the kids. They are still immature and only use what we give them. - Norm Petersen.
